"Leveraging Legal Knowledge during Contract Negotiations"

To show our gratitude for supporting MPI memberships, we are inviting bosses of MPI Members to attend this meeting FREE! Bosses, please join us for this wonderful program.
Negotiation specialist, Kelly Bagnall, will discuss and demonstrate how to better understand key legal concepts and consequences of certain contract provisions and the impact if alterations and amendments are made to “standard” contract language. The session will focus on contract provisions related to insurance, indemnity, reciprocal damages/penalties, choice of law, and various other key provisions. Ways to avoid the potential loss associated with signing a “risky” event contract will be discussed. Finally, when a contract amendment after signature is needed, how it can be addressed will also be reviewed.
The learner outcomes for this session are:
• Apply negotiation skills to complex contract provisions.
• Analyze contract modifications to critical provisions.
• Gain recognition of the impact of contract language on outcomes.
• Review the issues involved with amending contracts.

For more than a decade, Kelly has represented hotel and resort clients in virtually all aspects of operational matters, including handling litigation and arbitration actions for hotel management companies and owners nationwide. Kelly is a partner with the law firm of Brown McCarroll, L.L.P., a member of the State Bar of Texas, as well as a member of the Professional Convention Management Association, the Meeting Professionals International, and is a member and frequent speaker at National Association of Credit Management regional conferences.
